DAY 79 OF 365

From Frustration to Freedom The cross is the great turning point in human history. It literally changed everything, including man's relationship to the Old Testament Law. When we use the term "Law," we're referring to the standard of conduct that God delivered to Moses on Mount Sinai. It consisted of 613 specific commandments that every Israelite was commanded to keep. Here's the problem: Nobody was capable of keeping all those commandments. Even if you only broke one, like coveting something that someone else had, you were a "lawbreaker" and guilty of breaking the entire Law (James 2:10). Imagine the frustration every Israelite must have felt under the Law-sincerely wanting to live up to God's standard for their lives, only to fall short time after time. Understand that the Law itself wasn't bad or evil. It wasn't the problem; man was. But the New Testament tells us that God actually used the Law to point us to our need for something beyond ourselves, something that only He could provide to make us right with Him. That "something" was the right-ness that Jesus' death on the cross secured for those who place their faith in Him (Galatians 3:24). The Law showed us our need, but the cross met our need by providing us with the perfect sacrifice that makes us right with God. All of our lawlessness has been covered by the great sacrifice God made for us through His great grace. At the cross, the frustration the Law produced is replaced by the freedom Christ produces as He enables us to experience and enjoy God's favor. The Law showed us our need, but the cross met our need by providing us with the perfect sacrifice that makes us right with God. Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
