DAY 57 OF 365

Responsiveness The next attribute of God that we want to look at is one that is often overlooked, and that's the responsiveness of God. Simply put, God responds to man. Not because He's bound or obligated to, but because it's part and parcel of who He is. Chew on that one for a while. We all know what it's like to phone someone or shoot them an e-mail...only to have them not respond. If you're a parent, you definitely know what it's like to not get a response from your children! Responses aren't automatic, even when it comes to our strongest relationships. But then there's God, who never fails to respond to those who call out to Him. The Book of Judges is a beautiful example of this. Time and again, as Israel gets itself stuck in a sinful rut, they call out to God for deliverance, and each time He responds. This is an important attribute for us to appreciate and believe about God, because it will have a direct and practical impact on our prayer life. If we doubt this, if we question God's ability or willingness to respond to us, then we aren't going to be very motivated to call upon Him. However, if we see Him as He truly is, as the God who not only hears but also responds to His people when they cry out to Him, then prayer takes on a completely different tone. God responds to us. That's an amazing fact that we would be foolish not to take advantage of. Are we? And if we know that He hears us...we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. (1 John 5:15 NKJV) God responds to man. Not because He's bound or obligated to, but because it's part and parcel of who He is. What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
