Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale Daily Devotional

DAY 276 OF 365

Which way will you live?

Man is free to exist in one of two conditions. He can either bow down before the Lord and worship Him, or he can rise up and worship himself. God lets us decide what we'll worship. He doesn't twist our arm to follow Him or zap us if we don't. He gives us life and the capacity to choose which way we'll live.

Guess which way is better? The lie of all lies is that it's more satisfying to worship ourselves instead of submitting to God. But make no mistake: The freest, most blessed, most fulfilling, and most rewarding state of existence available to man is when we humble ourselves before Him.

In God's economy, submission to Him equals rest, submission to Him equals strength, submission to Him equals joy, submission to Him equals peace. Why? Because the act of submission is so wonderful? No! Because the Lord is so wonderful...infinitely more wonderful than us. And the gap between Him and us is reflected in the gap of satisfaction in worshipping and living for Him and worshipping and living for us.

So which way are we living? Have we truly discovered that our greatest freedom is found when we bow to Him? Or are we still under the spell of the lie, first spoken in the Garden of Eden, that there's something better going on outside the realm of submission to our Creator?

May we be those who are bowed before the Lord's throne and not our own. May we never exalt our selves above Him or think our way is better than His. May we never cut ourselves off from every blessing to be found in Him, and may we truly and unreservedly believe that we are never freer than when we submit to Him.

Our Mighty Maker, we want to worship You with our lives...show us how we can.

Man is free to exist in one of two conditions. He can either bow down before the Lord and worship Him, or he can rise up and worship himself.

Think about it...

What does this passage reveal to me about God?

What does this passage reveal to me about myself?

Based on this, what changes do I need to make?

What is my prayer for today?
