DAY 212 OF 365

A favorable forecast

Every athlete has what's known as a shelf life. That is, they only have a certain amount of time before their body starts to wear down, their skills become dulled, and they pass their prime. Depending on the sport, the shelf life varies. But for the most part, an athlete's most productive days are behind them by the time they hit their mid thirties.

The same holds true in a variety of other venues. Modeling, singing, anything that requires manual labor...age inevitably works against these things. In fact, there are few fields where things actually get better with age.

But here's what the Bible says about those who are grounded in the things of God; it says they will flourish and still bear fruit in old age, that they will be fresh and flourishing. In other words, their value actually increases. That's a favorable forecast!

You don't have to be a genius to see how much sense it makes to be grounded in the things of God, to be planted in His house, instead of spending your life on something that's going to fade with age.

The things of this world have a shelf life, and they typically don't improve over time. But when the Lord is a person's primary pursuit, when they invest themselves in the things that are near and dear to His heart, their most fruitful days are ahead of them...and the best is yet to come.

Timeless and Eternal One, we desire to be grounded in You. Plant us in the spiritual soil that keeps us fresh, fruitful, and flourishing.

But here's what the Bible says about those who are grounded in the things of God; it says they will flourish and still bear fruit in old age, that they will be fresh and flourishing. In other words, their value actually increases. That's a favorable forecast!

Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
