DAY 205 OF 365

Two attitudes A person's attitude towards sin reveals a lot about them, and there are two predominant attitudes out there. There's the What can I get away with? attitude, and then there's the I don't want to get away with anything! attitude. There's the attitude that wants to get as close to the edge of the cliff without falling off, and then there's the attitude that wants to say as far away from the cliff's edge as possible. There's the attitude that flirts with sin, and then there's the attitude that flees from sin. It's the one who flirts with sin that completely misses the power and significance of all God had done for them. But the attitude that flees sin understands something that Psalm 85:8 points to. It's the understanding that sin is to be avoided at all costs, especially in light of God's goodness. Notice how the Psalmist says God will do great things for His people, but that they also need to be careful to not turn back to folly. In other words, he's warning against the attitude of hanging onto the very things that brought them under bondage in the beginning. He's telling them to flee their folly and not flirt with it. It's the same message Jesus gave to the woman caught in adultery. He assured her that she was no longer a condemned sinner, that grace had set her free. But in the same breath He warned her to "sin no more" (John 8:11). So what's our attitude toward sin? Do we flirt with it and creep ever closer to the edge? Or do we flee it's presence whenever possible? Our honest answer reveals a lot about us. Holy and Sinless One, purify our hearts by granting us Your attitude towards sin. There's the attitude that flirts with sin, and then there's the attitude that flees from sin. Think about it... What does this passage reveal to me about God? What does this passage reveal to me about myself? Based on this, what changes do I need to make? What is my prayer for today?
