Pursue Peace
God is a God of diversity and a God of unity. His nature possesses a plurality that is diverse, but it's also unified in solidarity. It's hard for us to fathom this concept, because we automatically assume diversity is something that works against unity. But in God, there's something that prevents this from happening, and that's harmony.
Harmony is defined by Webster as "a combination of parts into a pleasing or orderly whole; congruity." It doesn't imply an absence of activity, but a total lack of friction or dissention. That's what we see when it comes to God. Even though there are three separate and distinct persons who are actively operating, they never clash or conflict with each other.
The Father never argues with the Son or the Spirit, the Son never rubs the Father or Spirit the wrong way, and the Spirit never contradicts the Father or the Son. Each one operates in a pleasing and orderly manner with each other. They are three, yet they're harmoniously one.
Now, no marriage is ever going to live up to that standard. Sin has so infected our nature that there will always be a great gap between the harmony we see within the Trinity and anything here on earth. However, as those who've been called to reflect God's nature, husbands and wives should at least strive towards the example we witness in the Trinity.
Don't misunderstand, that doesn't mean there won't be disagreements, and it doesn't signal the sacrifice of God-given diversity within a marriage. But it does set a goal for husbands and wives to purpose in their hearts to live peacefully and harmoniously with one another.
Harmony in marriage is a testiment to God's reflection in that marriage.
Think about it...
What does this passage reveal to me about God?
What does this passage reveal to me about myself?
Based on this, what changes do I need to make?
What is my prayer for today?
