She Reads Truth: 1 PeterSample

A Holy People
The Church is built on the Cornerstone of Christ. The living stone, the everlasting foundation. The unshakable ground and imperishable kingdom.
This Living Stone was rejected by men, but treasured by God as the perfect and precise capstone building material for His Church (v.4). Christ is living, and we are made alive in Christ (1 Corinthians 15:22). Because God is an extravagant and gracious includer, we are also like living stones and are invited to stand on the good work Christ has done. We are made alive in Christ and being used to build this living and vibrant organism God calls His Church. The Church grows and adapts and changes—but the Truth is unshakable and imperishable, living and everlasting.
As the Church, we are a people of God’s own possession (v.9). How magnificent and safe and true! We were once alone and adrift, but God called us to Himself and gave us a great mercy. He saved us and invited us to stand solidly on Christ in the Church and make great His name.
May we be so concerned with building up the name of the Lord and serving the good of the Church that we have no time to indulge in the passions of the flesh (v. 11). When we have our eyes on fleshly things, we take our eyes off the ways we glorify God—and that is sickness to our souls.
In the Word, Peter urges us to use our lives to make much of Him (v.9), because God brought us out of the muck and mire and into His family. As the Church, let’s do the Lord’s name justice as best we can on this earth - and use our words and our actions to point to His glory (v.12) - so that we point others to His goodness, too.

About this Plan

Peter walked with Jesus, talked with Jesus, messed up big and still had his Savior call him the rock - the foundation of the Church. Even though it’s thousands of years later, we’ll find we’re not so different from those New Testament believers. We are sprinkled by the blood of Jesus just as they were. We are set apart, forever made different, unable to return to our previous thinking and acting without seeing everything through the eyes of His sacrifice and our redemption. Join us as we dive into 1 Peter as a community!
