The Pathway to Authentic DiscipleshipSample

Our Divine Mandate
The moment had arrived. Jesus, having conquered death and risen in glory, gathered His disciples for one final instruction—one that would echo through generations and shape the course of history. His Great Commission was not given to merely encourage us; it is a divine mandate that carries the full weight of heaven’s authority.
Jesus begins with a declaration of His authority: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me”. This is a statement of absolute dominion. The One who defeated sin and death has all power, and with that power He sends His followers into the world. They would not go alone, nor would they go under their own strength. They are ambassadors of the risen King.
Then came the command: "Go and make disciples of all nations.” This is a call to action, requiring movement, engagement, and intentionality. The task is not merely to make converts but to cultivate disciples—followers who live out the teachings of Jesus in every aspect of life. This mission has no borders, no cultural barriers, and no limitations. The gospel is for all people, in every place, at every time.
The method is clear: "baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—publicly identifying new believers with the triune God—and teaching them to obey everything Christ has commanded." This is not just about knowledge; it’s about transformation. True discipleship is not a one-time event but a lifelong journey of learning and growing in obedience to Christ.
Jesus gives a promise that would sustain His followers through the trials and challenges ahead: “surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” He does not send us out alone. His presence, through the Holy Spirit, will empower, guide, and sustain us.
Today's Challenge: Take a moment to reflect on your personal discipleship journey. Have you had someone personally invest in helping you grow in your faith? Consider whether you are setting aside regular time to disciple someone else. How can you be more intentional about making disciples who will continue the cycle of investing in others?
Reflection Questions:
- What are the obstacles that keep you from discipling others and how can you overcome them?
- How have you seen transformation in your own life as a result of being discipled or discipling others?
- What study or resources have helped you grow in your faith?
Common Obstacles and Solutions
- “I’m not qualified.” Jesus used ordinary people. Start with what you know and share your journey.
- “I don’t have time.” Discipleship happens in everyday life. Start small and integrate it into your routine.
- “I don’t know how.” Find a mentor, use resources, and begin with Scripture study.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for entrusting me with Your mission. Give me courage to step out in faith, wisdom to invest in others, and a love that compels me to share Your truth. Lead me to those You want me to disciple and equip me for this sacred task. Amen.
Practical Application:
- Identify one person you can begin discipling.
- Set a regular time to meet.
- Choose a study or Bible passage to work through.
- Connect with a discipleship group for support and encouragement.
Remember: Making disciples is not about perfection but faithful obedience. Start where you are, use what you have, and trust God with the results.
