A Word to the WiseSample

The Friends of Job
Who are the friends in your life?
How would you imagine they would advise you when you are at your lowest?
The friends of Job had good intentions, and their wisdom of God often resonates with ours.
Eliphaz:
Believes Job must’ve done something wrong, because only the righteous prosper and the wicked suffer.
Bildad:
Believes righteousness is rewarded in material possessions.
Zophar:
Believes that Job deserved even worse.
When we are in these spaces holding those beliefs, that’s where the Holy Spirit can minister to us, and the Book of Job becomes fruitful.
At the end of the day, despite their intentions, Job’s friends didn’t have the answer.
Elihu:
Starts off by listening intently for the first 30 chapters. When he speaks, he tells them that they weren’t really saying much. He gets angry at Job for his self-righteousness, and he gets angry at Job’s friends for not having the answers.
Job makes the mistake of accusing God, and Elihu proceeds to establish God’s justice. We’ll finish off this devotional on Job by explaining more of what Elihu accomplished.
Our prayer for you is that you will establish yourself in a Godly community and have friends like Elihu who will honor God above you, willing to correct you in love and wisdom.
