Love God Greatly: For Such a Time as This - a Study on the Book of Esther

DAY 10 OF 14

Week 2: Reflecting God

A Willing Heart

Read: Esther 2:19-23, Proverbs 19:20

SOAP: Proverbs 19:20

“Listen to advice and receive discipline, that you may become wise by the end of your life.”

Into the Text

As followers of Christ, we all desire to finish well and hear the words “Well done, good and faithful servant.” As we learn to walk with God, we want our faith to strengthen, our love for God to deepen, and our words to reflect His wisdom. But none of this happens by accident—it takes humility and a willingness to learn, especially from those who have walked with God longer than we have.

Proverbs 19:20 reminds us that true wisdom often comes through listening to advice and accepting instruction. This can be challenging, especially when we think we’ve already figured things out. But a heart that’s willing to learn is a heart that grows. Like Esther, who listened to Mordecai’s counsel, we, too, are called to seek guidance from wise, godly people who can help us navigate life’s decisions.

As we grow in our faith, it’s important to remain teachable. A humble heart always takes the posture of a student, eager to grow and learn from those who are further along. But even more than that, we must continually seek wisdom from the One who holds all knowledge—our loving Father.

Maybe today, you feel like you need more direction or clarity. Make a point to seek out those who have walked with God for years to learn from them. But most importantly, never neglect spending time in God’s Word, where true wisdom flows. God is always ready to lead you if you have a heart willing to follow.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, help me to be humble and always open to your wisdom. Surround me with mentors and godly friends who can model for me what it looks like to walk with you. Give me ears that are eager to listen and a heart that’s willing to obey your instruction. Amen.

From this story, we learn there is no such thing as "coincidence." Though God may seem distant, even absent at times, He is present. God is always with us and at work in our lives.
