Abraham's Worship

DAY 4 OF 5

I am curious as to whether Abraham recognized how prophetic his acts were. Sacrificing his son, the provision of the sacrifice… all things that reflect the Most Important Story from the Bible: the Story of Jesus. He was called “the Son of God", who would become the Ultimate Sacrifice.

In the run-up to Abraham’s sacrifice on the mountain, there are two other moments that are parallel with Jesus’ Story. The first parallel is Abraham obliging his servants to wait at the foot of the mountain, just like Jesus obliged His disciples to wait at the base of the Mount of Olives while He spent time with God before His Crucifixion.

Another example is how Isaac had to carry the wood on which he would have been sacrificed. Who else did this? Jesus did! For He carried His own Cross!

"Carrying the cross by himself, he went to the place called Place of the Skull (in Hebrew, Golgotha). There they nailed him to the cross" (John 19:17-19, NLT).

At last, Abraham said to Isaac on their way: “God will have for Himself a lamb ready for the burnt gift, my son." Can it be any more referring?

Although God provided a ram at that time (more about this later), thousands of years later, God sent the Perfect Lamb for the Ultimate Sacrifice: Jesus. A Sacrifice so Perfect that we were no longer obliged to sacrifice animals on altars to atone for our sins and make us right with God.

Do you (still) believe and accept that Jesus died for your sins?

Pray with me: “Jesus, thank You for dying on the Cross for my shortcomings. I don’t deserve it, but I am thankful that through Your Sacrifice, I can have a living relationship with You. Will you help me to be aware of this (again)? Amen.”
