Armor Up: A 7-Day Plan to Fight for Your Child

DAY 3 OF 7

Unleashing the Power of Prayer

The book of James tells us that words of intercession have the power to heal (5:16). Your prayers are not mere wishes whispered into the void; they are potent spiritual weapons capable of shaping destinies and moving mountains.

As warfare parents, we must grasp the immense privilege and responsibility of standing in the gap for our children. Intercessory prayer is not a last resort; it’s our first line of defense and our most strategic offensive move.

Today, commit to praying daily for your child. Here are some powerful ways to intercede:

  • Pray Scripture over them. Take God’s promises and personalize them for your child.
  • Pray for their future—their calling, their (future) spouse, their impact on the world.
  • Pray against specific temptations or struggles they face.
  • Pray for their friendships and influences.
  • Pray for their relationship with God to grow deep roots.

Remember, persistence is key. The Enemy would love nothing more than to discourage you and make you feel like God doesn’t hear your prayers. Don’t fall for that lie. Keep showing up on the battlefield of prayer, day after day, year after year.

Your faithful intercession creates a spiritual canopy of protection over your family, even if you can’t see it. Prayer invites God’s presence and power into every aspect of your child’s life and plants seeds that will bear fruit in God’s perfect timing.

Don’t be discouraged if you don’t see immediate results. This intercession may not always change your circumstances immediately, but it will change you, shaping you into a parent who sees with spiritual eyes and loves with God’s own heart. The Enemy wants you to give up, so persevere!

Action Step: Create a prayer journal dedicated to your children. Each day this week, write out a specific prayer for each of your children. Include Scripture’s promises, dreams for their future, and any areas where they need God’s intervention. Be as detailed and heartfelt as possible. At the end of the week, review your prayers and note any changes you’ve observed in your children or your own heart. Make this a regular practice and watch how God works through your faithful intercession.
