The King Is Coming: A 10-Day Devotional From Red Rocks WorshipSample

Never Gets Old
“If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.” - C.S. Lewis
Every now and then in Scripture, there is a brief window that opens up and allows us to see the reality of heaven while here on Earth. I wish I could tell you exactly why, but those passages have always been my favorite. Whether it is Isaiah getting to see the Lord’s robe fill the temple, or John the Revelator seeing the Lamb who was slain — I love it all, and I cannot wait until it’s my turn to see what they have seen.
Revelation 4:6-11 describes one of these scenes. Angels, elders, and creatures all looking at the same man. Their only response to seeing Jesus is to sing their song, “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty. Who was, and is, and is to come.”
The thing that constantly amazes me about reading that specific verse is that Heaven’s reality has been happening throughout all of time. In perpetuity, all of the hosts of Heaven have been looking at the Lamb of God, and after all this time, they haven’t found a more important thing to say about Jesus. What they see must truly be so beyond what we can imagine: perfect, different, beautiful, and holy. So much so that every time they get a fresh glimpse of it, their hearts explode with a new iteration of that song. “Never Gets Old” is just the next rendering of this scene in Revelation 4.
There is always something powerful when the Body of Christ remembers who functions as its Head. When we gather together and sing this song, it pulls the reality of Heaven to Earth. What an honor to behold the Lord! It is our prayer that as you read this passage, your heart will be moved again to tell the Lord that he is holy.
Reflection Questions:
- It’s impossible for worry and worship to exist within the same breath. What do you feel as you read Revelation 4 and sing about the holiness of God?
- Every time we encounter God’s presence, there is something new to behold. Sing through “Never Gets Old”, remembering how you have experienced God’s glory in the past, and bring your heart into a place of worshipful response once again. What is something new about God that is bringing you into amazement?
