RE-SPONSE Worship 101Sample

DAY 9: A NEW SONG
Revelation 4 gives us a glimpse of the four living creatures worshiping in the Throne Room.
Their worship is a response to seeing the boundless nature of God, and their words ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty' expresses their awe when beholding the King.
This teaches us that worship begins with discovering something about God’s character and His nature and this leads us to a place of response.
Imagine you are driving towards Cape Town, South Africa, through a beautiful pass, and all you see around you are mountains. Around the next hill, it opens up into a valley, and there is this incredible, breathtaking view. What do you do? Hopefully, not close your eyes… No, you literally and physically can’t help but respond in awe. - WOW
Psalm 40:3 says, 'He put a new song in my mouth; many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.' The idea of ‘seeing’ in worship emphasises how our expressions of worship – through song, dance, or creativity – reveal God’s truth to others. But there’s also a spiritual 'seeing,' where faith allows us to perceive heavenly realities and respond through body, mind, and spirit.
Paul teaches us that in Christ, we are a new creation. The word 'new' is derived from the Greek word ‘kainos,' meaning something completely fresh, new in quality, nature, or essence. Worshiping God as a new creation means we are transformed to reflect the life and nature of Christ within us.
So how then do I respond to my creator? Let’s take the example of a bride and bridegroom. The bridegroom goes down on one knee and asks his bride to marry him, and the bride responds. He takes the initiative, and his bride responds. This response isn’t about how I feel; it’s purely about Him—pouring out my praise and adoration to the one who created me and knows every single detail about me. He has already invited me to enjoy His presence. It’s not something we have to “welcome.” He is, was, and always will be.
What an honour it is to be able to respond to our King; what an honour it is that He would think about and care for me. What an honour that He would share everything He created with me because He loves me. This is how we respond, knowing that He is Lord over all and is yet so intimately involved in every detail of our lives.
Can we challenge you today to write Him a new song by responding to Him in your own unique way.
