All Aspects of Forgiveness

DAY 2 OF 7

Day 2: The Power of Confession

1 John 1:9

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

Confession is not about informing God of our sins—He already knows them. Instead, confession is about opening our hearts to His grace and realigning ourselves with Him. It’s a humbling act that brings healing. Notice that God is not only faithful but He is also just- in His forgiveness of us. His forgiveness is not random; it is rooted in the sacrifice of Jesus. Because Jesus took our punishment, God can extend His grace while remaining just.

I wanna tell you about a friend of mine... For the sake of the story let's call him Bob!

Bob sat alone in his car, staring at the rain running down the windshield. His heart was heavy—he had messed up, again. It wasn’t the first time. He had promised himself, his wife, and God, that he would do better. But here he was, carrying the weight of another failure.

He had convinced himself for weeks that if he just ignored it, pushed the guilt down, and tried harder next time, it would go away. But it hadn’t. Instead, the distance between him, his wife, and God felt wider than ever.

Remember - 1 John 1:9
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

Now Bob and I had talked at length about 1 John but he thought confessing felt like admitting defeat, like walking into a courtroom where he already knew the verdict.

Until he sat down with God and his wife and admitted the Truth, he couldn't move forward. Once that had happened, something shifted. The weight he had been carrying—the shame, the guilt, the fear of rejection—began to lift. not because Bob had done anything to fix himself, but because God had been waiting with open arms.

Confession isn’t about informing God of our sins—He already knows them. It’s about realigning our hearts with Him. It’s an act of trust, a step toward healing. And the beauty of God’s forgiveness? It’s not based on our performance but on His faithfulness.

So, what about you? Is there something you’ve been holding back? Something you’ve convinced yourself isn’t a big deal or isn’t worth bringing to God? He’s not standing there with a list of your failures—He’s standing there with grace, ready to embrace you.
