The Take Off: It's Bigger Than You

DAY 1 OF 5

You Are Called to Shine

Think about the sun. It doesn’t just light up the sky—it gives warmth, helps plants grow, and sustains life on Earth. Without it, everything would be cold, dark, and lifeless. The sun impacts the world around it. In the same way, your life should be more than just existing. You are called to shine.

The world is dark. There is negativity, hate, and so much brokenness. But from the beginning, God’s answer to darkness has always been light. In Genesis 1, the earth was formless, empty, and covered in darkness before anything existed. Light was the first thing He created because it is essential. It brings life, exposes what is hidden, and overcomes darkness.

Jesus says that we are the light of the world (Matthew 5:14). When we shine, people see God. Why? Because He is the true light (John 8:12), and when we reflect Him, people don’t just see us—they see Him in us. Like a mirror, we don’t produce our own light, but when positioned correctly, we reflect the light that shines on us. That’s how we should live. When people encounter us, they should see God’s love—selfless, unconditional, and real.

What happens when we hide our light? It’s like covering up Jesus when people need Him the most. If the sun stopped shining, the world would suffer. And if we stop shining, others miss out on a life-changing encounter with Christ.

How Can You Shine Your Light?

Shining your light isn’t about being perfect, but it is about pointing people to Jesus. Here’s how you can shine:

  • At School: Stand up for someone bullied, show kindness, and refuse to gossip.
  • During Sports: Play with integrity, respect others, and encourage your teammates.
  • Around Friends: Be a safe space, hold them accountable, and challenge them to be better.
  • On Social Media: Post uplifting things, avoid toxic arguments, and share your faith.

Light makes a difference. It exposes darkness and brings clarity. When you shine, some may be drawn to it; others might reject it. However, your job isn’t to dim your light but to shine, no matter what.

Reflection Question:

Is your life reflecting God’s love to those around you? In what ways can you shine His light more?

Prayer:

God, help me to reflect Your love. Let my words, actions, and attitude shine in a way that draws people closer to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
