Day 2: Studying the Context

Scripture: Luke 24:27 - "And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself."

Reflection:

Jesus himself interpreted Scripture by explaining its context. He showed the disciples on the road to Emmaus how the Old Testament pointed to Him, revealing the bigger picture of God's redemptive plan. We should follow His example by considering the historical, cultural, and literary context of each passage.

Understanding the context of a passage helps us to avoid misinterpretation and to grasp the original meaning intended by the author. It involves looking at the historical background, the cultural setting, and the literary genre of the text. By doing so, we gain a more accurate and nuanced understanding of God's Word.

As we study the context, we are reminded of the unity and coherence of Scripture. We see how different passages fit together to reveal God's overarching plan and purpose. We appreciate the richness and depth of God's Word, knowing that it speaks to us across time and culture.
