Revive Us, Lord: A 40-Day Journey Through the Gospel of JohnSample

Courageous Testimony
Summary
- The Pharisees interrogated the man healed of blindness, demanding that he denounce Jesus as a sinner.
- The man testified, “I was blind, and now I see,” attributing his healing to Jesus.
- Despite insults and rejection, the man defended Jesus, asserting that no sinner could perform such miracles. To be able to perform such a miracle, Jesus must be from God!
- In retrospect, the man was right in his assertion. Until this moment, no one had ever healed a blind man in Scriptures. This miracle was indeed the first recorded case in the Bible of a person healed of his blindness. (See Enduring Word Commentary on John 9:7).
- The healing of the blind testified that Jesus was indeed sent from God (Psalm 146:8, Isaiah 35:5)
- After the man was cast out, Jesus came looking for him and revealed Himself as the Son of Man. The man believed and worshipped Jesus.
- Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for their spiritual blindness and warned of judgement for those who chose not to see the truth.
Reflect
1. Have there been instances in your life where you were hesitant to testify about Jesus and His goodness? What caused you to hold back?
2. The man was courageous in defending Jesus, and Jesus comforted him when he was cast out. How does this story inspire you to stand firm in your faith when you face hostility? How can you boldly proclaim Jesus to your friends and colleagues?

The healed man’s testimony challenged the Pharisees, exposing their unwillingness to accept Jesus’ divine authority. Despite their anger, he stood firm, declaring his transformation. His boldness serves as a call for believers to testify about Jesus, even when there is opposition. Jesus' response affirms that those who recognise Him are never abandoned.
Reflect
3. When the blind man knew who Jesus truly was, he worshipped Him. (v 38) Think about all the good things God has done for you. How can you move from simply acknowledging God’s blessings to exuberantly worshipping Him?
Closing Prayer
Pray for strength to stand firm in your faith, especially when you face hostile opposition. Ask God also for a worshipful heart to thank Him for all His goodness to you!

About this Plan

For the next 40 days, we’ll journey through the Gospel of John, exploring his first-hand account of Jesus’ life. John gives us a glimpse of what it was like to be with Jesus, revealing who He is and how He reflects the very nature of God. Throughout the Gospel, Jesus makes bold claims about Himself, not just for people then but for us today. He calls for a response—one that will shape our lives, destiny, and eternal reward. Will we truly believe in Him? Will we follow Him as our Master and Lord to the very end?
