We Live by Faith
Key Scripture: Hebrews 11:1-39
What does it really mean to live by faith? Is faith just about believing in God, or is it something that should shape the way we live every day?
Hebrews 11 is one of the most powerful chapters in the Bible because it shows us what real faith looks like in action. The author of Hebrews gives us a definition in Hebrews 11:1—"Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." Faith is not based on what we see; it is built on who God is.
The chapter then lists incredible men and women who lived by faith:
- Noah built an ark when there was no sign of rain (Hebrews 11:7).
- Abraham left his home and followed God without knowing where he was going (Hebrews 11:8).
- Moses chose to suffer with God’s people rather than enjoy the luxury of Pharaoh’s palace (Hebrews 11:25).
Each of these people trusted God’s promises more than their circumstances. They didn’t always see the outcome right away, but they obeyed anyway. That’s what it means to live by faith—to walk forward even when we don’t have all the answers.
Hebrews 11:6 reminds us that "without faith, it is impossible to please God." God is not looking for people who have everything figured out. He is looking for people who will trust Him completely. Faith is not just about believing, it’s about living differently because we believe.
Ask God to help you live by faith, not just by what you see. What is one area of your life where He is asking you to step out and trust Him?
