A First Nations Christmas for KidsSample

Jesus Forgives Us
*In the Bible, nearly all the names have meaning. The same is true for our First Nations people. This means that the translations of the Hebrew and Greek names of biblical people and places have been presented in a First Nations style.
“Today in the village of Much Loved One (David) an Honored Chief has been born who will set his people free. He is the Chosen One!” The spirit-messenger continued, “This is how you will know him—you will find the child wrapped in a blanket and lying in a feeding trough.” (Luke 2:11-12, First Nations Version)
Creator Sets Free (Jesus) is Great Spirit’s (God’s) gift to us. Even as a tiny baby, Jesus already has an important job. His job is to “set people free from their bad hearts and broken ways.” Sometimes it is hard for us to think of ourselves as having hearts that don’t always choose the right thing. Can you think of a time when you made a bad choice? When we make bad choices, what can we do to make things right again?
Jesus was born into our world so that we could have forgiveness. All we have to do is ask.
Prayer:
Dear Great Spirit (God), thank you for the gift of your son, Creator Sets Free (Jesus). Thank you for giving him the important job of setting us free from our bad choices. Today I ask that you forgive me for _____________________________________.
Activity:
Jesus is a beautiful gift that God gave us. What gift would you want to give Jesus if you could? Draw a picture of yourself bringing a gift to the baby Jesus.
