Journey With Jesus 365Sample

How do the desires of your heart impact what you say?
Jesus and his disciples were being criticized because they were not following Jewish law. They were eating without washing their hands first. The Pharisees and scribes believed if you were to eat without first washing your hands and vessels, you would become defiled. However, Jesus rebuked them. The rules they were being accused of breaking were traditions of man, not of God. Jesus told them it is not what goes into a man that defiles him, because it goes into the belly, not the heart. It is what comes out of the heart of man that will defile him. For out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts. These include adultery, murders, thefts, wickedness, deceit, pride, and much more.
How are you protecting your heart from being defiled? Are you staying away from those who may influence you to do evil things in God’s eyes? Are you aware of any worldly influences that have been pulling your heart away from God?
