The Pharisees and Sadducees ask Jesus for a sign from heaven, but He rebukes them for their inability to interpret the signs of the times. Jesus warns His disciples to beware of the "leaven" of the Pharisees and Sadducees, referring to their false teachings. Peter declares that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and Jesus praises him. Jesus then foretells His death and resurrection, but when Peter rebukes Him, Jesus sharply rebukes Peter, emphasizing the necessity of self-denial and taking up one's cross to follow Him.
