A Year in Luke/ActsSample

The two thieves on the crosses on either side of Jesus are like embodiments of the response to Jesus. One says if He is the Messiah He should save Himself, what is He waiting for?! The other recognizes that Jesus is innocent and humbly asks: “Remember me when you come in your kingdom.” Jesus assures the man that very day he would be with Him in Paradise.
These are examples of the way in which we have seen people responding to Jesus throughout the Gospel of Luke. Some think He should use the same power as the rest of the rulers around, others perceive something different and humbly come to Him.
Often these are outsiders, but it is also not as clear as all outsiders being in the Kingdom of God. We see this here with the two thieves. It is not enough to be on the outside, we must all come to Jesus humbly and accept His Message to enter the Kingdom of God.
