Day 2: The Laughter of Faith

In Genesis 18:9-15, three visitors come to Abraham and Sarah, delivering a message from God that she will bear a son within a year. Upon hearing this news, Sarah laughs—an expression of disbelief given her age (90 years old). However, God responds by asking, “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” (Genesis 18:14). This moment highlights an essential aspect of faith: it often coexists with doubt and disbelief.

Sarah’s laughter can be seen as both an acknowledgment of her impossibility and an invitation into deeper faith. In Romans 4:19-21, Paul reflects on Abraham’s unwavering faith despite his old age and Sarah’s barrenness. He emphasizes that Abraham did not waver through unbelief but was strengthened in his faith as he gave glory to God. This teaches us that faith is not the absence of doubt but rather choosing to trust in God’s promises despite our circumstances.
