Shepherd on the Search Advent Devotions for FamiliesSample

Watching Over Us
Shepherds are used to hearing noises while they watch over their sheep at night. Sometimes robbers or wild animals try to steal the sheep. Always being on the alert is one of the shepherd’s most important jobs. Do you wonder if Joseph and Mary felt like God was watching over them as they made the long trip to Bethlehem? Have you ever felt afraid of something—maybe something you saw, or heard, or that just popped up in your thoughts? Just like God was with Mary and Joseph, He’ll be with you too. When you get a little scared, tell yourself, “God is with me, and when He is with me, it’ll be okay!” God doesn’t want you to live in fear. Psalm 23 is about a very special shepherd, the Lord! He takes perfect care of His sheep—that’s what God calls you! If He’s with you, then you have nothing to worry about!
