When You Follow Jesus...Sample

STOP, put aside distractions, grab your Bible, pen, and notebook, take a couple of slow, deep breaths, and get cozy.
INVITE Jesus to meet you and tell yourself that God is always present with you, whether you feel something or not today.
READ the Bible passage(s) twice slowly. We recommend using a physical paper Bible for this part. Come back to this screen after you do the readings.
REFLECT on what stands out to you from the passage with these questions (if doing this with the group, respond in the comments with your thoughts).
1- Read Romans 8:26. Have you ever had an experience where you didn’t know what to pray for? What was that like?
2- Remind yourself that the Holy Spirit communicates with God on your behalf as you turn your heart to God. How could this change prayer for you? Practice inviting the Holy Spirit to come and pray on your behalf.
PRAY and REST for a few minutes, and let whatever comes to mind rise up. Don’t dismiss anything that comes to you; just talk to God.
RESPOND by asking God if there is anything from your time today that may encourage others, be helpful to share, or may be a question others have (from the reflect questions). Share it today!

About this Plan

Take a deep dive into Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 6, where Jesus teaches us things that will mark His followers. The phrases “when you give,” “when you pray,” and “when you fast” hold invitation and expectation. We’ll receive instruction on these aspects of the Christian life, apply the teachings to our lives, and practice giving, praying, and fasting…living the way of Jesus together! We suggest a Thursday start day.
