Devotions to Hush Your Inner CriticSample

GOD GIVES YOU REFUGE UNDER HIS WINGS
Ruth, raised in the heathen country of Moab, learned of the God of Israel through her husband’s family, who’d come to her country during a famine. After she and her mother-in-law, Naomi, were widowed, Naomi decided to return to Israel. Ruth went with her, saying, “Where you go I will go. . . . Your people will be my people and your God my God” (Ruth 1:16 NIV). Because of her faithfulness to Naomi and her trust in God, Ruth was richly rewarded by finding a godly husband in Boaz and, through him, birthing Obed, who would become King David’s grandfather. Today, pause and consider under what or whose wings you have taken refuge. Hopefully, you’ve chosen God’s. As cleric Edward Topsell asked, “Who would not forsake the shadow of all the trees in the world to be covered under ‘such’ wings?” Make it clear in your mind and heart that if you put your trust in God, you’ll be continually under His protection. And He’ll reward you for your choice, just as He did Ruth and all His daughters who followed.
Prayer: Your wings, Lord, are my refuge. I trust in You to give me the loving shelter I crave. Amen.
