Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year OneSample

These six things the LORD hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that she innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren (Proverbs 6:16-19).
Do you speak deceptively to make yourself look good?
Ananias and Sapphira are contrasted to Barnabas in the Book of Acts. He is noted for his generosity (Acts 4:34-37). Luke writes about him, “having land, sold it, and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet” (Acts 4:37). Conversely, the satanically influenced couple concocts a hypocritical plan, which costs them their lives (Acts 5:1-10). God hates “a lying tongue,” which literally means “a tongue of deception” (Proverbs 6:17). We need to speak truth and not craft words to manipulate people to think highly of us.
Employment Point: Avoid deceiving others with a deceptive tongue.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions helps readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word.
