Mentoring Lessons: The Attitude of ServingSample

Serving in the local church
Do you have a good balance in serving your local church?
The sport movement is made up of many parachurch groups serving specific types of athletes and many other sports opportunities. Sports parachurch organizations only began in recent times and today there are hundreds of them!
In my early years, I established a number of parachurch sports organizations while I was active in my local church. My pastor lacked passion for sport, but he cared about the congregation being involved in missions. We had many conversations with the church leadership on ways to engage the congregation in sport. We had to find common ground – a common goal. Sport gave the church a tangible mission field.
My local church sent more than 20 members to serve the needs of two global sports conferences. Others with writing and editing skills volunteered to compile sport movement information for distribution.
Do you, your sports facilitation team or organization, help serve your church or the churches of your staff or volunteers? If no, why not? Do you keep your church's leadership informed, seek ways members can serve with your sports ministry, and ask for a spiritual covering?
Hebrews 13:17
Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account.
Stay positively engaged with your local church. Find common goals and find ways to serve their mission goals.

About this Plan

The Christian principle of serving, exemplified by Christ, emphasizes character and heart above all else. Embedded in the ethos of the sports movement, serving others is fundamental. Leaders worldwide selflessly serve, seeking only God's glory and the advancement of His kingdom in the communities they touch, devoid of the need for recognition or appreciation.
