God’s Story Is Our Story: From Genesis To JesusSample

Reflecting on the last week: God called his people to have renewed hearts filled with his law (Deut. 10:16; Ps. 40:8). He graciously offered this renewal to anyone who asked (Deut. 30:6). But few did. The Psalmist who loved and delighted in God’s law was a member of a very small crowd indeed (Ps. 119:77). Jeremiah foretells a day when God would give many, not a few, of his people new hearts inscribed with his law. How? God would finally become the faithful covenant partner that Israel never was. Jesus, the incarnate son, was that faithful partner, and in Christ we too become faithful covenant partners with God. It is nothing short of a miracle that our churches are full of transformed people. This was unheard of in Israel’s day! As Jeremiah foretold, in Christ our sins were forgiven. In Christ, we have come to know God. Despite this great truth, many of us feel untransformed, unforgiven and ignorant about God. Take heart! Jesus is committed to making a community of followers who experience all of these realities in their fullness. We must encourage one another: In Christ, you are transformed and forgiven. In Christ, you know God! How does this wonderful truth encourage you today?
