DAY 290 OF 365

The "Curse of the Billy Goat" is a legend that goes back to 1945. During a World Series game, the Chicago Cubs asked the owner of a pet goat to leave Wrigley Field because the goat’s odor annoyed the fans. The owner left with his goat, but sent this telegram to Mr. Wrigley: “You are going to lose this World Series and you are never going to win a World Series again because you insulted my goat.” Whether the curse is valid or not, the Cubs have not won a World Series since then. The Bible says that those who break God’s moral law are under a curse, and are subject to God’s judgment. Deuteronomy 27:26 reads, “Cursed is everyone who does not observe and obey all the commands that are written in God’s Book of the Law.” The Apostle Paul tells us that this curse still applies, but he offers this Good News in Galatians 3:13: “Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When He was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing.” He went on to explain, “If the law could give us new life, we could be made right with God by obeying it. But the Scriptures declare that we are all prisoners of sin, so we receive God’s promise of freedom only by believing in Jesus Christ.” When we turn to Christ, God sets us free from the curse of breaking His law. For that, we should be supremely grateful.
