DAY 198 OF 365

John Templeton founded the Templeton Growth Fund. He began investing on Wall Street in 1938. When World War II broke out in 1939, he bought 100 shares in each of 104 companies—shares that were selling for $1 or less! By always buying low and selling high, he became a billionaire and donated millions to worthy causes. He was wise enough to see value in underrated stocks. Ecclesiastes records this proverb: Wise people make wise decisions. Jesus related a parable that illustrates this. He said the kingdom of heaven would be like ten bridesmaids who wanted to meet the bridegroom. Five were foolish and five were wise. The foolish five did not take enough oil for their lamps, but the other five were wise enough to take extra oil. While the groom lingered, they all slept. At midnight, the shout came, “The bridegroom is coming! Come out and meet him!” All the bridesmaids rose up to go. The five foolish ones asked the others, “Please, give us some of your oil; our lamps keep going out.” The others replied, “We don’t have enough for all of us. Go buy some for yourselves.” While they were gone, the bridegroom came, went into the feast, and locked the door. Jesus ended the story saying, “You must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of my return.” Wise people plan. They claim Jesus as their Savior and live each day ready for His return.
