God’s Creation

DAY 1 OF 5

God’s Big Picture

God’s big picture portrays four significant events that together comprise the essence of biblical truth. These events are sequential. They are 1) God’s creation, 2) Satan’s deception, 3) Christ’s substitution, and 4) our restoration. These four fundamentals begin in the book of Genesis and unfold throughout the Scriptures. They express the purpose of God’s creative plan, expose the enemy's deception, expound Christ's redemptive work, and explain His restorative presence in each person who embraces them. Biblical truth transcends culture and tradition. It is effective in all circumstances and is for all people because it concerns God’s unchanging plan for His entire human creation.

Our study of the gospel must begin in Genesis. The first scene of God’s big picture occurs in the Garden of Eden, at the dawn of creation. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis 1:1) Everything that the Master Designer created had a purpose. The heavens were created to provide seasons for the earth (Genesis 1:14). The earth was created for habitation by humankind (Isaiah 45:18). Within this planet, God stored every mineral, chemical, nutrient, treasure, and resource we could ever need.

Through my imagination, I can see the sovereign God begin to paint the deliberate and premeditated picture of redemption against the backdrop of eternity. He brushes the landscape with loving detail, carefully including copious shades of color and lavish texture dimensions. Fanning breezes animate the magnificent trees and the numerous flowers that emit exquisite fragrances. Streams splash and sparkle. Mountains rise majestically into the mist.

The beautiful garden scene is complete. Everything is perfect. Adam is handsome, and Eve is beautiful. They are strong and happy—perfect human specimens. They are neither disabled nor deficient, disgruntled, or depressed. All is well in God’s original creation. God walks and talks with the man and woman whom He fashioned in His own likeness.

What was His divine plan in the beginning? Why did God create humans? What was His dream for us? How is it achieved? If God’s big picture of redemption includes our restoration, to what condition, status, or lifestyle are we restored? Knowing God’s plan for people in the beginning prepares us to comprehend His plan for us today.

God, I give You thanks for Your beautiful creation. You made a beautiful world for us to inhabit and enjoy. You created everything, and it was very good.
