The Gospel of MarkSample

Jesus is questioned about why His disciples do not fast (also recorded in Matthew 9:14-17 and Luke 5:33-39), Jesus challenges them to see that the practice of fasting is not about the act of fasting. It's about the disciple’s relationship with Him, and since He is with them, it wasn’t necessary for them to fast. They will be able to return to fasting later, as a way to commune with Him, after He is gone.
How does Jesus' response to questions about fasting reflect a shift in religious practices, and what does it communicate about the significance of His presence?
