The Life of DavidSample

Day 18: 2 Sam. 4-6 x Cindy Parrish, Levite at UPPERROOM
David’s life displays a truly unusual reverence for God’s anointed. He is given multiple chances to take out people that stand in the way of his promise being fulfilled, but he would not do it. He was submitted to God’s authority even when it was clear the wrong man was in power. This is a transcendent way of thinking – an understanding of God’s heart and ultimate power. He feared the Lord and remained submitted, knowing that God would exalt him in due time.
The same is seen in chapter six when David danced undignified before the Lord. The King of Israel strips away his kingly garments and becomes a spectacle before the crowd. Had he seen a vision of the Son of Man hanging naked on a tree? I don’t know. But we can be sure that he had an audience of one in mind that day.
Prayer: Lord, set me free from the fear of man. Let me transcend earthly logic and wisdom in order to trust Your ways and Your timing. Lord, I know You see the heart more than the outcome. Create in me a clean heart, free of judgment, so that I can be fertile ground before You. Amen.
