God and Me: Devotions from Time of Grace

DAY 5 OF 31

God and My Salvation David, king of Israel, was a great military hero. He knew the hardships and thrills of military life. David was also a liar and poseur. He knew from firsthand experience how unconfessed sin builds up like a dark cloud overhead. It never goes away by itself. Time does not heal all wounds. Debts incurred do not just disappear; they linger and accrue interest. How great the relief that pours into a sinner's heart when he trusts God enough to confess his sin, trusts his precious promises of forgiveness, and trusts that the guilt really is gone. "I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, 'I will confess my transgressions to the LORD'--and you forgave the guilt of my sin" (Psalm 32:5). Enjoying God's forgiveness is better than finding out that all your credit card balances have been paid. It's better than your very last mortgage payment. It's better even than finding out that your cancer is not coming back. Being forgiven means getting your life back. Your joy back. Your optimism back. Being forgiven means having an eternity you can look forward to.
