On a hot day, Jesus went to the well for a drink of water and met a woman who was there alone. This woman went to the well to avoid shame and judgment from others. Her life wasn’t exactly what she thought it would be, and it certainly wasn’t acceptable by the standards of culture in that day. Likely, she went to the well at the hottest time of day simply to miss having to interact with anyone else there. That’s what made her encounter with Jesus all the more unexpected.

Not only did He find her at the well in the middle of the day, but when He did, He didn’t come down on her, turn away from her, or judge her. Instead, He offered her the gift of a full life. And as soon as she received it, nothing about who she was before mattered. Just like that, her entire life was changed. What did she do in response? Run and tell everyone she could find about the Man she just encountered. Suddenly, it didn’t matter how others saw her, what they might think, or how they would respond. All that mattered was sharing the truth she just experienced, the Messiah she just met, and the full life she was offered in Him.
