REST: Living Anxiety-Free in an Anxiety-Full WorldSample

Speaking Peace to the Storm
In part three, we unravel the power of words in influencing our internal state. Reflect on Luke 8:24 and learn the transformative lesson from Jesus rebuking the storm. Discover the creative power of positive affirmations and speaking God's word over your situations.
Having discovered in our last study the way Jesus responded to the storm by being at rest despite the raging storm, we have another great lesson to learn.
In Luke 8:24 (NET), we read that: "They came and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we are about to die!” So he got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waves; they died down, and it was calm." There is a great lesson to learn here: Jesus didn't look at the storm and begin to speak based on how dangerous the situation was, rather He spoke what He wanted to see to the storm; He spoke peace and stillness to the storm. The lesson here is this: we are at the mercy of what we utter from our lips. Our experiences can not be greater than what we are saying.
Some people don't know that when they speak anxious words they become anxious. You can't speak anxiety-filled words and be at peace. Your words have creative power. Rather than speaking based on the situation, why not speak God's word to your situation? When we begin to speak God's word to our situation it may not immediately be solved, but the peace of God begins to find entrance into our minds. This is the miracle that we need because with the peace of God in our minds we have conquered the effect of the storm internally and soon we will conquer it externally.
Choose to speak God's word to your situation. Use your tongue well.
