A Few Words Before I GoSample

David had an eye for God’s future
“For He [= God] has made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things and secure. For will He not cause to prosper all my help and my desire?” (2 Samuel 23:5)
David had been king of Israel for many years. He had conquered many enemies and, as a result, the people had finally found peace. He had made preparations to build a temple. Moreover, David had written many songs, inspired by the Spirit of God. On his deathbed, he looked back on all this with gratitude. But he also looked ahead. For God had promised him great things. David's sons and further descendants were to reign forever. His royal house would last forever. God had made an “everlasting covenant” with him. This contained promises that still awaited fulfillment, but for which David was already very grateful. So on his deathbed, David was not focused on himself and his own accomplishments, but on a future that God had promised.
What a blessing if one can be so full of hope and confidence in their old age. When one has an eye for developments in God's kingdom beyond their own limited life here on earth. We can all practice this attitude, whether we are old or young.
Do you manage to have an eye for “great things” that God has promised, or are you mostly preoccupied with your personal highs and lows?

About this Plan

It’s often hard to say goodbye to people. Especially if they are leaving for a long time or even dying. In such situations, we attach great importance to the last words someone tells us. In the Bible we also read several examples of people who had something important to say before they died or left. Let’s read their last words together.
