The 3 Questions We’ll All Have to Answer About Our Financial Decisions

DAY 1 OF 3

Day 1: The Journey of Wealth: Where Did It All Go?

In his great work on this subject, “Money, Possessions, and Eternity,” Randy Alcorn writes, “One day everyone must answer these three questions: Where did it all go? What did I spend it on? What has been accomplished for eternity through my use of all this wealth?”

So today, let’s start with the question, "Where did it all go?"

As we explore what the Bible has to say about money and wealth, it offers a multifaceted view of wealth.

Proverbs 10:22 says, “The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, without painful toil for it.”

This serves as a reminder that true wealth encompasses more than material riches – it includes the blessings of health, family, and the joy of living in accordance with God’s will.

Wealth, in the biblical sense, is a resource entrusted to us by God, not merely for personal comfort but for fulfilling His purposes.

Ecclesiastes 5:10 teaches, “Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This, too, is meaningless.”

So often, our journey with money is simply all about wanting more. As we look at how we earn, save, and spend, it's important to keep in mind that how we deal with money shows what really matters to us. Did we use our money wisely and generously, or did we hold onto it because we were afraid or greedy?

Consider the parable of the Rich Fool in Luke 12:16-21. The man in this parable hoarded his wealth, planning to live leisurely, not realizing his life would soon end. This story warns us against storing up earthly wealth while neglecting to be “rich toward God.” Contrast this with the example of Joseph of Arimathea, who used his wealth to provide a burial place for Jesus (Matthew 27:57-60). His generosity left a lasting legacy in the service of God's plan.

As you consider the flow of wealth in your life, ponder these questions: Have you been a faithful steward of what God has entrusted to you? In what ways can your financial journey reflect biblical principles of stewardship, generosity, and trust in God's provision?
