DAY 11: A CLEAN HEART

Read: Matthew 5:8; Psalm 51:10; Proverbs 4:20-23; Philippians 4:8; 2 Corinthians 10:5

In Proverbs 4:23, we are given direct instruction about the priority we ought to give to guarding our heart. “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

Imagine your heart as the engine that drives everything else in your life. It is where your passions, desires, and values live. Just as a car requires regular maintenance to perform at its best, our hearts need protection to thrive.

What or who are we allowing to influence us? What or who are we allowing to entertain us? What relationships are closest to us? What are we filling our time with? The answers to these questions will have great affect on the condition of our heart.

The incredible hope we have is that, as we draw near to God and align our lives to His Word, He cleanses our heart and renews our mind. In this process, we learn to take captive any thought that is not in alignment with God’s Word, and to make it obedient to Christ, and in turn, the outflow of our life will honor and glorify Him!

PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father, search my heart and reveal to me anything that is not fully in alignment with Your will and with Your truth. Cultivate within my heart love and honor for Your commands. Create in me a clean heart and help me to guard my heart and my mind against the lies of the enemy.

1. How effective are you at guarding your heart and protecting your mind?

2. Are there things you are using to entertain you or to influence you that are making it hard for you to have a clean heart?

3. Is there currently anything in your heart that you need to surrender to God and allow Him to cleanse?
