The Lord's Prayer: Exploring the Depths of God

DAY 5 OF 5

The Final Word

Everything has a conclusion, including the instructions Jesus gave His disciples in Matthew 6 concerning how to pray. There is always a final word. In this case, the final word is really the final word. Though this sentence is not in every ancient manuscript, it is in many, and its' message is the consistent theme throughout the Bible. It is not only the final word of this that we know as "The Lord's Prayer," but it is The Final Word concerning everything that was, is, and is to come. It is the ultimate bottom-line reality of life. "For Thine is the kingdom, power, and the glory, forever. Amen."

This sentence should always be written in all caps, in bold font, italicized, and underlined with an exclamation point! It is the ultimate mic drop statement, the absolute final word to everything. Is this world messed up?

Yes, BUT…..

Is life hard? Yes, BUT….

Is the devil real and active and prowling about like a roaring lion? Yes, BUT…..

The final word of every situation, history, and even eternity is that the kingdom, power, and glory are all Gods. God forever reigns. His glory is matchless and unending, and His power is over all powers and never fails or is thwarted. God alone is supreme.

We should acknowledge all of this when we pray. Not so God will know, or so God will feel good about Himself, but to remind ourselves of the One to whom we pray. When times are hard, remember the Kingdom is His. When we are tempted and enticed, remember He is the One most glorious. When our world seems to be spinning out of control, remember His power is supreme.

Whenever we are afraid, anxious, worried, uncertain, confused, lonely, discouraged, depressed, and all hope is gone, we need to continue to pray because the kingdom, the power, and the glory belong to God alone—our transcendent, Holy God. Our "Daddy," whose desire for us is perfect, who is the Provider of everything we need, and who has utterly defeated our enemy. His Kingdom, His Power, and His Glory is eternal.

The Lord's Prayer: Exploring the Depths of God

The world's most popular prayer can teach us much about who God is and what He truly desires. Jesus used the Lord's Prayer to teach them, and us, that fancy words from insincere hearts are dangerous and unwanted by God. ...
