Think of the oldest thing you know. Now, take the oldest thing you know and multiply its age by three. Keep that number in your head. Do you have it?
I assure you that injustice is older than whatever number you have in your head.
It can be exhausting when we constantly see injustice everywhere we go and begin to learn just how long it has been in our society. Then, we start to ask tough questions.
If Jesus loves us, why would He allow injustice to continue?
If Jesus is powerful, why would He not stop injustice?
If Jesus ended other people’s injustice, why does my own injustice continue?
These are all important and valid questions—ones we may never fully find answers to in this life. However, Matthew’s account of Jesus traveling from town to town assures us that Jesus is aware of the injustices in our lives. He is aware of all of the unkindness and unloving experiences we encounter in our lives. Jesus cares, and He has the power to fix any injustice in our lives. We must remember that Jesus is always working, even when we think He is not. When we question Jesus’ awareness of injustice, we must remind ourselves that He is always doing something.
We should challenge ourselves to be brave when encountering injustice and remember that Jesus already has the solution.
