The Love of God at Christmas

As a child, I experienced Christmas with great anticipation. I awaited the season of Christmas knowing I'd be off school for a few weeks, I imagined what my gifts might be, and I recall enjoying time with my family. The bonus for me was that my birthday landed exactly one week before Christmas. So, this time of the year was always extra special.

While my birthday was a day I looked forward to, the celebration of the Birth of Jesus always carried meaning beyond me, outside of my life, and focused my thoughts toward God's Love. The Birth of Jesus came to explain God's Love for me, my family, my friends, my community, and my world.

The wonder of the Birth of Jesus, sent into the world, orients our thoughts toward God's Love. The Sacrifice through His Death on the Cross demonstrates God's Love for us. The Power of the Resurrection of Jesus at Easter reminds us of our hope for this life and the next. All these gifts are made possible because God broke into our world in a manger in Bethlehem in the form of a child, born of a virgin.

Everything about Christmas serves to orient our thoughts toward God's Love. The Christmas decorations, the lights, the gifts, the wonderful food, treats and meals, and the gifts of friends and family make Christmas a highlight of the year. May you enjoy all these gifts, special meals, decorations, family gatherings, and time to rest and celebrate. I hope every hint of Christmas this year reminds you of God's Love for you and your family.
