Holy Night and Little Star: A 5-Day Reading PlanSample

Day 4
“’I am the Lord’s servant,’ Mary answered. ‘May your word to me be fulfilled.’” — Luke 1:38
This is a beautiful declaration from Mary about her identity. Yes, she’s a Jewish girl living in a village in the Middle East, but most importantly, she is a servant of God. Because of this, she will say “yes” to Him, no matter how hard it might seem.
Understanding the two most important things about who we are in Christ makes it easier to say “yes” to God:
First, we are beloved children of God, so we can talk to God and don’t need to be terrified about the future.
Second, God is our King and we are given this life to serve Him. We, like Mary, are servants of the Lord.
Discussion
How would you answer when someone asks, “Who are you?” Can you think of a few different answers that are all true?
Prayer
Dear God, help us to know and remember our true identities. We are Your beloved children. We are Your servants. Tell us what You want us to do, and we will obey You because we trust You, just as Mary did. We want to say yes to You, our King.

About this Plan

At Christmas, we remember how God brings peace and joy to the world. The first Christmas was challenging for a young Jewish girl named Mary. God asked her to do something that seemed hard—to give birth to a baby who would become the Savior of the world. Are you ready to say yes to God this season?
