The Road to Purpose

Purpose is something many of us are curious about. We may sometimes feel clear, and others times less clear about our purpose. In this plan, I will share some factors that impact your pursuit of purpose. Through this plan, I hope to help you see that living the life God has created you to live (John 10:10) begins with accepting your unique design, identifying and defeating your purpose blockers, and finally, living in purpose.

As a young man, I was determined to go to law school. However, there came a time when I felt a prompting to go to seminary. The prompting came from my soul (mind, will, and emotions). It was so intense I couldn't ignore it, even if I tried. That spiritual leading that I felt, along with a chance conversation with a family friend, led me to seminary in Princeton, New Jersey. From there, my knowledge and passion for theology grew, and my purpose became more evident. What a relief! I would have been on the wrong path if I had pressed on toward Law School. Instead, I was on the right and best course for me and living out God's plan for my life. I continue to seek and follow his calling in my life to this day.

Just as I can look back over my life and track a path to my unique destiny, you can also. You have also had life-altering conversations and made life-changing moves because of a feeling. That deep prompting telling you, "Do this," "Move here," or "Don't do that," was your soul telling you this isn't what you were created for - this isn't who you were created to be. That same unsettling feeling that has been trying to lead you to your destiny is the same spiritual leading that led you to this moment, this study, this journey to identify your purpose. I felt a similar leading when trying to decide between law school and seminary. After the conversation with my friend, I felt more certain God was leading me toward seminary.
