WordLive - Year One

DAY 287 OF 366

Prepare: Ask God to reveal himself to you afresh today, and to give you renewed closeness with him for today’s tasks.

The only man for the job
As he gives his advice to Pharaoh, Joseph is writing his own job description! And now he is able to take on this job with none of the attitude of the 17-year-old Joseph at the start of the story.

At still only 30 years old (v 46), he has the maturity of character and self-discipline, formed by God through his years of hardship and faithful servant work, to be rocketed from prisoner to deputy ruler without pride or arrogance, and to do the job without corruption or selfishness.

Being faithful
The Holy Spirit in Joseph, who has taught and sustained him, guided and comforted him, revealed wisdom and matured character in him, is now what Pharaoh sees as he looks at Joseph (vs 37,38), and is the means by which his position in the palace is secured. It is for exactly this task that God has brought Joseph to this precise location, at this exact time.

One way that God trains and develops us like Joseph is by trusting us with small things before he trusts us with bigger things (Luke 16:10). Our responsibility is to be faithful with what we’ve been given today, and leave the future to God.
Respond: Do you have ambition? Want to do great things for God? Then be faithful in the tasks or the life situation that God has given you today, and ask the Holy Spirit to teach and mould you through them.
