Trust and Obey

In this scene, Jesus asks Simon to cast his nets one more time. Peter hesitates: "But Lord, we worked all night and caught nothing." He’s exhausted, skeptical, and unsure. As a fisherman, he knows the sea. What could this rabbi teach him about fishing?

Still, Simon’s brother encourages him to trust. Andrew has heard so much about Jesus. In the end, Peter obeys – and that changes everything. The nets overflow. The boat nearly sinks. In the series, this miracle even frees Peter from debt and gives him the chance to follow Jesus fully.

This story reveals something essential about trust. Peter didn’t obey because he understood. He obeyed because Jesus asked. And in that obedience, he experienced both provision and freedom.

Many of us are like Peter. We want control, certainty, and results we can see. We try to fix things ourselves until our strength runs out. Yet Jesus’ invitation still stands: “Trust me. Throw the net again.”

Faith often begins where confidence ends. Jesus knows exactly what we need and how to provide it, sometimes in ways that defy logic. His call isn’t about success; it’s about surrender. Each act of obedience deepens our relationship with Him and reminds us that real freedom comes from trust.
