A Strong Warning

In J.R.R.Tolkien’s novel The Two Towers, we read about a deceitful character called Gollum tricking two young hobbits, Frodo and Samwise Gamgee, by taking them up the treacherous steps to the lair of Shelob, the hungry female spider. In the Bible verse for today, King Solomon also paints a terrifying picture that if we keep walking the steps of sexual immorality, those steps will ultimately lead to hell. It’s a serious business to sin against a holy God, and Revelation 21:8 warns us that the sexually immoral will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur.

What would you think of a man who bought a plane ticket, but did not know where the plane’s final destination was? Yet many a man or woman buys a plane ticket from the Devil, not realizing he is flying the plane straight into the bowels of hell. As Christians, we are to take the hand of Christ so He can lead us to His still waters, but sometimes instead we let go and fall into ditches.

I suppose the question I’m asking you is, who’s leading you the majority of your life—is it the immoral man or woman? Or is it the Lord Jesus Christ? If you know you’re being led into the spider’s lair, take heed from the book of Revelation again: “Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent” (Rev. 2:5).
