But God, I Don't Want To! Learning to Say Yes to God When It Doesn't Make Sense.

DAY 3 OF 6

Isn’t it funny how God uses other people in our lives to point out his blatant movements when we refuse to acknowledge them? God will use friends, family, and even strangers you decide to take out into raging seas to remind you that HE IS GOD and that his way is much better than ours. He can remove relationships, jobs, temptations, or stability to get your attention, and he can even remove good things that are distractions to get your attention (because we are good at being distracted from God’s word, even with “good” things).

In Jonah, chapter 1, the people on the ship demanded an explanation as to why they were victims of a storm that he had caused, and his answer was, “I am a Hebrew, and I worship the Lord, the God of Heaven, who made the sea and the dry land”.

His response is a perfect example of what our heart posture should be. It’s a reminder of WHO we are and WHO God is. We are children of God and were created to worship the God of Heaven—the God who made the sea and the dry land. We need to speak that out loud as a reminder to us and those around us.

In that declaration, Jonah knew what to do to make things right. He needed to stop running from God, stop causing chaos for those around him, and prevent the storm from affecting others who had nothing to do with him.

You see, sometimes we get so caught up in our storms that we must stop and declare who God is and who we are in HIM so that our perspective changes. We must truly seek God and what he wants for us instead of what we feel we want or don’t want. Because so many times – those two things don’t align – what God wants for us and what we want for us. What we think is best for us, our family, our kids, and our coworkers is often different than what God wants. Not because what we want is terrible but because what God wants is even better.
